SINGLE CAB, EXTENDED CAB, DOUBLE CAB PICK-UPS – WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
The design of a pick-up truck is recognisable across the globe, owing to the distinct shape of the load bed which gives a truck its ‘pick-up’ quality. While almost everybody can recognise a pick-up, much less is known regarding the various cab types which are available for 2×4 and 4×4 pick-up trucks. So, what is a cab type? The cab of a pick-up is the seated area in which the driver and passenger(s) remain while the vehicle is in use. There are multiple cab types to accommodate for different customers, with varying numbers of seats and different load bed measurements. Within the Award-Winning Isuzu D-Max range, there are three cab types available: Single Cab, Extended Cab, and Double Cab.
Single Cab
The single cab type, available with the Isuzu D-Max Utility as both 2×4 and 4×4 pick-ups, consists of two doors and just one row of seats. The slight compromise of cab space in a single cab pick-up allows for a longer load bed, ideal for towing and carrying bigger tools and equipment.
Extended Cab
The extended cab type, available with the Isuzu D-Max Utility and the Isuzu D-Max DL20, offers two rows of seating, with the back row designed to be compact and practical. This is in order to accommodate either extra passengers or (thanks to the fold down seats) extra tools/equipment in the back of the cab. Extended cab pick-ups often have two full-size front doors with smaller rear doors that are opened using discreet inner handles.
Double Cab
The double cab type, available with all 4×4 pick-ups in the Award-Winning Isuzu D-Max range, is the largest and most versatile cab style with four full-size doors and two rows of standard seats, with space for two passengers in the front and three in the back. The standard size load bed is extremely accommodating for tools and equipment and rear ISOFIX points mean it works as well for families as well as businesses.
